If you want to know the heart of a church, watch what it does when it is celebrating.
In March 2025, as Victory Baptist Church, Ayigya prepared to mark a full year of 40th Anniversary celebrations, the church opened the festivities in the best way possible — by bringing the entire church family together for a day of inter-family games, friendly competition, and a free community health fair.
The timing was significant. The event coincided with Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, March 6 — making it a celebration of two milestones at once: the nation’s freedom, and the freedom found in a community of faith.
Games for Every Age, Every Ability
The organisers made sure no one was left out. The day featured volleyball, ludo, draughts, sack races, Oware, penalty shootouts, and a full tug-of-war that brought plenty of noise and laughter from the crowd. For the youngest members of the Victory Baptist family, there was a bouncy castle — and by all accounts, it was one of the most popular attractions of the day.
After hours of spirited competition, it was the Adom Family from Oduom-Anwomaso who emerged as overall winners, taking home the top prize and earning the admiration of the entire gathering. Their victory was celebrated not just as a win for a team, but as a moment that perfectly captured the collaborative spirit of the day.
Health First: Free Screenings for the Community
Alongside the games, a dedicated health check station was set up to offer free health screenings to all participants. The initiative reflected something that has always been true of Victory Baptist Church: that the gospel of Jesus Christ speaks to the whole person — body, soul, and spirit.
The health fair was not just for church members. It was open to the broader Ayigya community — a reminder that this church sees its responsibility extending well beyond its own congregation.
A Word From the Senior Pastor
Rev. Dr. Charles Owusu Ampofo addressed the gathering and tied the day’s festivities to something larger than sport and celebration.
“Today, as we mark both our nation’s independence and the 40th anniversary of Victory Baptist Church, it is essential that we continue to protect the peace and unity that we cherish,” he said.
He thanked church members for their enthusiasm and participation, and affirmed that events like this would remain a cornerstone of church life — promoting unity, health, and the kind of belonging that keeps a congregation strong.
More Than a Party
What happened that day in Ayigya was more than a church outing. It was a statement — about who Victory Baptist Church is, what it values, and how it chooses to love its community. Forty years in, this is a church that still believes in showing up fully: in worship, in service, and yes, in a good-natured tug of war.
